Project A2 seeks to gain fundamental insights into the dynamics of crossmodal learning using a genetically encoded activity reporter. This non-invasive, in vivo cellular-resolution imaging system is capable of recording the simultaneous activity of over 20,000 neurons in multiple cortical areas of the mouse brain. The goal of the project is (1) to collect data on both transient activations and long-term adaptations that occur in response to multimodal signals, then (2) to use this data to develop computational models that take into account cellular-level details of the brain, and (3) to test these models using a game-theoretical multi-perturbation analysis.
