Project C8 - Crossmodal bindings and plasticity during visual-haptic interaction for novel forms of therapy
PIs: Prof. Dr. Lihan Chen, Prof. Dr. Simone Kühn, Prof. Dr. Frank Steinicke, Prof. Dr. Kunlin Wei
Project C8 aims to investigate how high-fidelity virtual representations of the upper limbs can be used to increase the sense of body ownership as well as agency, and to what extent such representations can be used therapeutically in patients with phantom limb pain and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. We will use psychophysics and functional magnetic resonance imaging to optimize the representation of virtual upper limbs, which will then be tested and validated. Finally, we will develop virtual reality therapeutic applications to alleviate pain in patient samples while assessing neuroplasticity effects of the training intervention.
